With the increase in foreign travel, more of us feel the desire for something of the “exotic” within the garden. Palms serve this purpose admirably. A number of varieties are fully hardy in the british climate and will bring a feeling of warmth to the garden, especially on warm balmy evenings.
They have large evergreen leaves that are either fan-leaved or feather-leaved and spirally arranged at the top of the stem. The leaves have a tubular sheath at the base that usually splits open on one side at maturity
